I’m not sure what to make of this but it’s yet another attempt by wide receiver Terrell Owens to again try and continue playing in the NFL.
The unemployed player is attempting to keep in league shape and his name in the conversation by working out with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
Interesting combo don’t you think?
According to NFL.com, Daniel Jeremiah of MoveTheSticks tweeted on Thursday, “Brees, Palmer and Boller are working out together in San Diego. Joined by T.O. for throwing session today.”
First of all, fans everywhere are going to wonder if a T.O. move to New Orleans is imminent. The first step could be an invite to training camp as suggested by Sports Illustrated.
Then the second interesting part of the story is the remaining part of the group: a collection of quarterbacks as well as running back Darren Sproles. Saints backup Chase Daniel was also there and has recovered from June’s thumb injury.
So how did all of this transpire? The quarterback scenario makes sense but you have to wonder how T.O. nudged his way in. Is Brees just being a nice guy?
Keep your eye on this story.
Another interesting quarterback story on Thursday was one with the 49ers Alex Smith. After yanking his chain a bit in the offseason with his contract and then rumors of interest in Peyton Manning, Smith has found a silver lining: He’s going to use the Manning story as motivation this season.
Smith said to Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee that the March Manning story was “a little awkward” and there were no hard feelings between him and his coach, Jim Harbaugh. But he added of the situation, “Certainly there are a lot of forms of motivation. I guess that’s there a little bit as far as motivation.”
The quarterback did ultimately pen a three-year deal and truth be told, I am still not convinced that Manning will be back to top form. Earlier this week, reports came out that Manning’s arm strength sits at 85 to 90 percent without promises that further improvements will come.
There’s also that little neck problem that Manning will battle. I am still convinced he’s one hard hit away from ending his NFL career. Questions will continue to linger over Manning’s form.
I don’t think he will be the same but only time will tell.
